BACK TO BACK WINS IN TOWN FOR MAKYBE BRED COMMON INTEREST

26 September 2009

The Lee Freedman trained COMMON INTEREST further excited Blue Sky Stallion Fund shareholders at Friday's Manikato meeting with a gutsy win at Moonee Valley in a smart field including last start city winner Set To Pounce from the Danny O'Brien stable.

Common Interest (pictured as a yearling)(More Than Ready), already a Flemington stakes winner at two, now has a record of four wins from just six starts with big plans in the spring sprinting features on the cards.

"He's a class act this colt and it was nice to see him tough it out when the swoopers came for him in the closing stages" said Blaxland.

"Backing up his last win, he's certainly proved he's trained on and his sectionals have been great. We are pretty pumped up about his chances come the business end of the season".

Common Interest won in a time of 1.13.04 for the 1200m, just six tenths of a second slower than Danleigh's win in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes at 1.12.58 seconds.

In a joint venture with Arrowfield Stud, the performance based Blue Sky Stallion Fund 2008 purchased five colts at last year's major sales, in a bid to find the next top stallion prospect to stand at Arrowfield upon retirement.

The Stallion Fund allows investors to buy shares in a number of blue blood colts for a single unit share price of $60,000, with racing and breeding rights included along with the first 12 months costs. To date the fund has had three runners for Stakes winner Common Interest, Friday's winner Dempsey, the metropolitan placed Red Hot Choice (placed 2nd to stakes winner Foryoureyesonly), Friday's impressive Warwick Farm trial runner Lemieux (4th) and the yet to race Lancetti (Redoute's Choice ex Dottoressa) with John O'Shea.

"To be a part of these well bred individuals in a performance based fund is an opportunity that has been taken up by noted breeders and owners from the industry." said Blaxland.

If just one of them makes it to stud the upside is enormous for shareholders, without the risk of having to buy these colts themselves. Obviously to have the team from Arrowfield as a co-investor is a fantastic boost to the funds chances of enjoying success.
