MAKYBE Stallions Have Families on Show in Breeders' Cup

5 November 2010

MAKYBE's exciting stallions Purrealist and Street Hero have representatives of their respective sirelines set to do battle on the Breeders Cup Program in the the US this weekend. Street Hero's sire Street Cry has the wonder mare Zenyatta in the Gr 1 BC Classic. Whilst Purrealist's sire Tale of the Cat has Gio Ponti in the Gr 1 BC Turf Mile.

First to Street Cry mare Zenyatta (pictured). She is shooting for her 20th consecutive victory in the $5 million Gr 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Hollywood Park, California.

Last week Zenyatta featured on 60 minutes in America to give just some indication of the media frenzy surrounding this wonder mare. If that's not enough Hollywood Park has placed a 20 x 150-foot sign on its rooftop that reads, “Good Luck, Zenyatta!” The sign will be in full view of aircraft flying into and out of nearby Los Angeles International Airport. The race is expected to be her last race before she retires and with Zenyatta going for back to back wins in the BC Classic to record her 20th consecutive victory comparisons could be drawn between Makybe Diva going for her third straight Melbourne Cup.

Tale of the Cat stallion Gio Ponti (pictured), last year was voted champion older male and champion male turf horse in the US last season and he will contest the $2 million Gr 1 Breeders' Cup Turf Mile. He reeled off four consecutive Grade One turf wins and finished second to Zenyatta in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic but in missing a clash with Zenyatta in the Classic he will have to overcome Goldikova the champion mare in Europe to win the Mile. Trained by Christophe Clement, Gio Ponti has won 11 of 22 starts. This year he has recorded two Gr 1 victories on turf in the Shadwell Turf Mile and the Man O War Stakes to take his Gr 1 tally to six with his prize moeny now US$4,677,800.
