On the 16th August 2011, MAKYBE Racing & Breeding confirmed that legendary mare Makybe Diva gave birth to her fourth foal, a magnificent Lonhro colt weighing 52kgs.
This week officially signalling the start of the breeding season the team at MAKYBE were happy to share the latest photographs of Makybe Diva and her foal at 10 days old.
Seen here frolicking in a paddock dedicated to “mum”, as Makybe Diva is referred to by staffers, he is every bit confident as his mother.
This is the first time that Makybe Diva has foaled in Victoria which is a credit to the ongoing success of Tony & Deslee Santic’s racing and breeding stud located near Geelong. The stud sold the highest priced yearling at the Inglis Australian Yearling Sale earlier this year and has achieved various accolades including awards for Outstanding Achievement in Breeding and Champion Australian-Bred International racehorse. There will be no surprises when Makybe Diva’s latest offering enters the sales ring in 2013. Makybe Diva’s first foal, a colt by Galileo sold for $1.5m while her second, a filly by Fusaichi Pegasus was knocked down for $1.2m. The Santic’s have retained the third, a colt by Encosta De Lago.
With seven foals already on the ground, MAKYBE will foal down in excess of 80 mares this season before gearing up to present their biggest ever draft for the yearling sales in 2012. Next year’s draft includes a colt out of Makybe Diva’s mother Tugela by Street Cry, a filly out of Black Caviar’s mother Helsinge by Redoute’s Choice and a colt by leading sire Lonhro out of Makybe Diva’s half sister, Optimist.
At MAKYBE the business operations do not skip a beat with the first mare covered yesterday morning by resident stallion Purrealist at one minute past midnight. “We’re in business” said newly appointed Stud Manager Stephan Putter. “The season has well and truly started”.
To date, Makybe Diva’s progeny include Rockstardom; a 4yr old entire by Galileo who is trained by Danny O’Brien, La Dolce Diva; a 3yr old filly by Fusaichi Pegasus in training with Mark Kavanagh and a 2yr old colt by Encosta De Lago. The new foal, a bay colt by Lonhro is a welcome addition to the family.
The Gr. 2 Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m will be run at Flemington Racecourse tomorrow.
Release Ends.
