Aussie proves too strong at Hawkesbury
In what looked to be a very strong 2-year-old maiden at Hawkesbury on Thursday, the Makybe bred ‘Aussie’ proved too strong despite drifting across the track in the final furlong. Having drawn barrier 1 and with Brett Prebble in the saddle, Aussie led throughout and hit the line in determined fashion stopping the clock in 58 seconds.
Having run second to the ultra-impressive Dawn Passage on debut and fifth in the Group III Blue Diamond Prelude, Aussie could well prove to be a serious horse considering how wayward he was in the run today.
Having been withdrawn from the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale 2018 due to an injury sustained at the complex, the colt was syndicated by James Harron Bloodstock, with Makybe Racing & Breeding retaining an interest.
Out of Gold Anthem, Aussie is the 11th foal from the supreme producing mare who can boast the likes of Starspangledbanner and Gold Chant among her progeny. She has a Not a Single Doubt colt heading to Inglis Easter 2019 as part of the Lime Country Thoroughbred draft and currently has a Written Tycoon filly at foot. Bred back to Snitzel in 2018/19, Gold Anthem is truly leaving a dynasty behind her with her pedigree page barely having room beyond the first dam.
