Patience Proves a Virtue for Last Bling
On only her second start, the Makybe bred and raced daughter of Starspangledbanner proved too good for her opposition at Pakenham over 1200m. Prepared by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, patience has been almost a prerequisite for this mare, as she has taken a long time to mature physically. Her talent was never in question though, with Trent seeing enough potential on her first prep to look after her and not to push her too hard. Heading to the races on Thursday night, Last Bling had the benefit of a good barrier draw and a familiar face in the Makybe silks, Luke Currie, who gave her a beautiful ride and had the race sown up as they came off the bend.
Out of a half sister to Makybe Diva, Valkyrie Diva has proven to be somewhat of a blue hen for the farm with her other progeny including listed winners Wales, Group 3 winner in Hong Kong Jolly Banner and stakes performered C’est Beau la Vie also out of the mare. This on top of the fact that Valkyrie herself won at Group 3 level at Moonee Valley over the mile.
Given the year off last year, Valkyrie Diva is currently in foal to Zoustar and will have a filly by snitzel heading to the Inglis Easter sale this year.
As for Last Bling, Trent will surely have another race on the cards for her in the near future. His initial feeling is to keep her at 1200m and try to string a win or two together.
